On arrival at Cairns Airport, make your own arrangement to the hotel (transfer can be arranged on request).

Early departure for ferry transfer to Green Island (45 minutes ferry) where you will stay for one night.

Green Island Resort is a 4 and a half star eco-certified resort on the doorstep of the Great Barrier Reef. This natural wonderland offers one of the most unique and memorable holiday accommodation locations in Australia.

Day at leisure to relax and explore the tropical rainforest nestled amid on a coral cay.

Seagrass beds support a wide range of animals, from juvenile fish that use the grass for protection from predators to large sea turtles and dugong that feed on the seagrass. The reef around Green Island has over 190 different types of hard corals and over 100 types of soft corals.

Green Island attracts a wide range of land, sea and migratory birds that pass through the Great Barrier Reef on the way to nesting grounds. The island is one of the most significant bird colonies on the reef, and is called home by 35 different species of seabirds and 28 species of forest birds. Of the 134 different species of plants on the island, most were deposited there by birds after feeding in mainland forests.

Return to Cairns with the 4:30pm ferry. On arrival to Cairns marina, a private transfer to Thala Beach Resort. The resort is located between Cairns and Port Douglas and has achieved the highest level of Advanced Eco Certification and is a member of National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World.

Thala Beach Nature Reserve provides a natural and secluded environment for your relaxation, and is a tranquil haven at the end of a hard day’s exploring. Whether strolling at sunrise on the private tropical beach or relaxing with cocktails watching the sunset over the coastal ranges, you will be enchanted by your surroundings.

Start the day with a Yoga Class on the beach or enjoy a relaxing massage in the Rejuvenate Spa (additional cost applies).

The day is at leisure to completely immerse yourself in this idyllic location.

  • Coconut Odyssey: On Australia’s only coconut tour, not only do you get to drink & eat from the very young green coconut to the little known ‘Coconut Apple’ – you will also learn the truth about the health benefits of coconuts;

  • Talks with Kuku Yalangi People Aboriginal Community: elders from our local aboriginal community, the Kuku Yalangi people, come and share their stories as passed on from previous generations including the history of their ancient cultural traditions.You will enjoy seeing and learning the value of bush tucker food, the knowledge of which has been nurtured since the age of the hunter-gatherer. The haunting rhythms of the traditional Didgeridoo is being incorporated into many forms of contemporary music, here it will take you back to the beginnings of the aboriginal Dreamtime;

DAY 5 : TROPICAL NORTH QUEENSLAND

Depart on a full day eco-tour to Daintree/Cape Tribulation.

Your guide will meet you at your accommodation and then drive north along the scenic route via Mossman to Cape Tribulation. Lush farmland contrasts with seascape as you approach the Daintree River. Time for a short morning tea then its time for an informative river cruise. Relax and enjoy the splendour only the Daintree can offer as you learn of Estuarine crocodiles, mangrove forests and wildlife.

You ascend the Alexandra Range and stop for a panoramic view of World Heritage Tropical Rainforest merging with the azure colours of the Coral Sea. Experience the rainforest intimately on the elevated National Park Boardwalk. A BBQ lunch with freshly prepared salads is served while you can hand feed Wallabies and enjoy a cold drink from the bar (own cost).

The tour takes you beyond Cape Tribulation along 7kms of the 4WD Bloomfield Track to pristine Emmagen Creek and time for a refreshing rainforest freshwater swim. Seek fish and turtles in the creek and indulge in a taste testing of tropical fruit, a cup of traditional Billy Tea and damper all of which enhance the tranquil surroundings.

At Cape Tribulation Beach, there is a little time to stroll along the beach and boardwalk to the photographers’ platform overlooking the mountains and coast where the ‘Rainforest meets the Reef’ (no swimming at Cape Tribulation Beach).

After a short afternoon refreshment stop at the Daintree Ice-creamery (own cost), you cross the Daintree River by cable ferry and begin the homeward journey.
